Turning Innovation into Manufacturing Reality
Innovation begins with ambition. But the value of innovation is realised when that ambition can become a successfully manufactured product.
For businesses developing technically complex products, the challenge is not simply generating new ideas. It is translating them into products that can be manufactured reliably, repeatedly and at scale, without losing the original design intent along the way.
At Hymid, this is where we believe the right development partnership makes the difference.
Our role goes beyond manufacturing components.
By bringing together design, materials, tooling, quality and manufacturing expertise, we help customers explore what is possible while reducing risk throughout development. It is what gives customers the confidence to push boundaries, knowing their project has a clear route towards production.
Innovation often means challenging established ways of doing things, whether through new materials, complex geometry, improved functionality or a different manufacturing process, which inevitably introduces more technical questions.
Addressing those questions early gives product teams greater confidence to innovate. Design for Manufacture, material selection, prototyping, tooling and validation can all help identify potential issues before they become costly changes later in development.
Two of Hymid's recent development partnerships demonstrate the value of our approach.

Material innovation with Crowcon
Hymid partnered with Crowcon on the development of its UnoIQ and DuoIQ personal gas detector range. The project combined demanding regulatory and performance requirements with sophisticated two-shot moulding, tight tolerances and specialist antistatic materials.
Working collaboratively from the design concept stages, Hymid helped translate Crowcon's vision into a manufacturable solution. DfM, tooling expertise and ongoing technical reviews helped the teams resolve development challenges before moving into production.
The partnership has now seen Hymid named as a finalist for the Material Innovation Award at the Plastics Industry Awards, alongside Hymid's separate shortlisting for Processor of the Year.

Rethinking manufacturing with Orluna
Our partnership with Orluna presented a very different innovation challenge: replacing aluminium components with recycled plastic while maintaining the precision, performance and finish demanded of premium architectural lighting.
Together, the teams re-engineered the components using a 90% recycled plastic, developing a UK-based manufacturing model with circularity built into the product architecture, enabling components to be disassembled/repaired at end of life. Extensive prototyping and a six-month trial period helped refine the components for manufacturing repeatability and assembly, while matching or exceeding the performance of their metal predecessors.
This work has been recognised with Hymid and Orluna’s shortlisting for the Innovation category at the Make UK Awards 2026 in the South region, alongside Strategic Business Growth and SME of the Region.

Our customers lead with ambitious product designs, and Hymid’s expertise help realise those concepts while reducing the risks between design and production.
Innovation succeeds when ambition is supported by a development and manufacturing parter who reduce risk and engineer certainty in each aspect of the product’s development.
Our recent award recognition is testament to what a great partnership can enable.
