Hymid Show Young People What Modern Manufacturing Looks Like on National Manufacturing Day 2026
As a proud member of Make UK, Hymid welcomed 45 GCSE students from local schools to our Torquay facility for National Manufacturing Day 2026, giving the students an opportunity to see modern manufacturing first-hand and discover potential career paths.

Through manufacturing-based games, practical activities and team challenges, the students explored the range of thinking that goes into turning a concept into a finished product. Working in teams, they earned points for participation, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
One of the highlights was a design challenge in which each team created their own trophy concept. The team with the most points is crowned the overall winner, and their trophy design will be brought to life by Hymid’s designers using 3D-printing technology. Taking a concept from the page to a physical product helped show the students how creativity, design and manufacturing come together. The winning team will also receive Chilly’s water bottles branded with the NMD2026 logo.
We were honoured to welcome the Representative Mayor of Torbay, and JoJo Ramsden, a Senior Economic Development Officer at Torbay Council, and Make UK Director Fiona McGarry. Their attendance demonstrated strong support for local manufacturing and for creating opportunities that help young people understand the industry as it is today.
By opening our doors, Hymid wanted to do more than explain what we develop and manufacture. We wanted young people to experience the technology-led and collaborative environment behind modern manufacturing and see the breadth of careers available.
Challenging old perceptions matters. The next generation should be able to consider manufacturing based on what it is now, a place for ideas, innovation and rewarding work, not what it may once have been perceived to be.
