Understanding Two-Shot Injection Moulding

Two-shot injection moulding involves injecting two different materials into a single mould cavity in two separate stages. This technique allows for the creation of parts with intricate features, varying material properties, and complex geometries. ARBURG, a leading manufacturer of injection moulding machines, play a crucial role in Team Hymid's capabilities. The two companies have a longstanding supplier partnership, having worked together since 1997.

Comparing Two-Shot to Traditional Methods

Two-shot injection moulding offers several advantages over traditional manufacturing methods, such as:

  • Reduced assembly time and costs: By combining multiple parts into a single component, two-shot molding can eliminate or simplify assembly processes.

  • Improved part quality: Two-shot molding can lead to more consistent and higher-quality parts due to reduced assembly-related defects.

  • Enhanced design flexibility: Two-shot molding allows for more complex and innovative part designs.

However, traditional methods may still be suitable for certain applications, depending on factors such as part complexity, material properties, and production volume - if that's the case Team Hymid also has you covered!

ARBURG 8 Upgrade

ARBURG, a leading manufacturer of injection moulding machines, play a crucial role in Team Hymid's capabilities, and we've come to rely on their knowledge, expertise and technology to help us proivde complex solutions to our customers issues

Recently Hymid was working with a medical customer who experienced an unforecasted uptick in demand. The customer had a tool with Hymid, but the increased demand needed a working resolution to ensure that production needs were met.

Working in collaboration with ARBURG, technicians from Hymid and ARBURG were able to undertake a risky and unprecedented upgrade to an existing machine at Hymid's production facility. The never-before attempted upgrade was completed on time and production of the customers components were met.

ARBURG's advanced technology and technical support were instrumental in achieving the desired results. The partnerships collaboration was deemed to be a significant one, and so it was entered into the Prime Partnership catergory at the 2023 Plastics Industry Awards, and we were collectively honoured to win the award.
