Having the ability to accurately measure components is an imperative part of quality control, especially when serving the medical and healthcare sectors. Uniform wall thickness and tight tolerances are essential for maintaining consistency. Measuring these parameters during the trial phase, before production can enable any amendments to be made to the mould tool before production begins.
At Hymid we are always looking to invest in capabilities that improve our processes, reduce production time and provide greater reliability for component production. We recently invested in a Zeiss O-Inspect Co-Ordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), which has an impressive array of measuring capabilities.
Our Site Director, Mark Jones, has dedicated himself to getting the best out of this new instrument and has become highly proficient in its use. The CMM works by using tiny, precise movements at a constant temperature and pressure, as well as ultra-high resolution imaging, to gain the exact dimensions of a component. CMMs differ greatly in their precision; the high-spec model we have at Hymid can measure to an accuracy of +/- 1.6 microns. To put that into perspective, the width of a human hair is normally between 50-90 microns, so our CMM is able to measure even the tiniest flaws and discrepancies, as well as analyse surface finishes in fine detail. Having such a powerful tool is a fantastic addition to our range of capabilities and further positions Hymid as the
partner of choice for medical and healthcare projects, where the CMM can provide the most value. If you think your project would benefit from state-of-the-art injection moulding techniques, precise component measurement and industry-leading expertise, then please get in touch to see how we can make your vision a reality.
